Maiko Makeover

Having seen silly girls stumbling around Kyomizudera in maiko outfits snapping pictures of each other, I dismissed this as something silly and touristy to do... but as you know I'm a kimono addict and I just had to see what it was like.
It was still really embarrassing to walk around outside decked out like this. (Some dumb Taiwanese tourists took pictures of me.) And the wig and makeup felt really weird and the kimono was really heavy so I look unnatural in all my pictures. Still, it was really interesting to learn about the makeup and kitsuke.
The only thing was the place I went to doesn't let you look a a mirror until after they are all done so I missed out on a lot of the process of transformation, which is what I was interested in most, not taking glamour shots. When I asked why there were no mirrors, the makeup lady said that everyone unconsciously touches their face and musses up the makeup.
