さくらんぼ Japanese Cherries

Haven't you ever wondered... Do the cherry trees in Japan bear cherries? I mean everyone makes a huge fuss about cherry blossoms but I've never heard anyone talk about cherries, except for the kind imported from America.
Well, today on the way from work I noticed cherries growing on some someyoshino (the most popular variety of cherry tree) trees. I guess they are not very noticible (quite small) nor edible. Poor neglected cherries.
